Although the honey bee is still used in the city logo and other promotional materials, only a few apiaries remain active in the area. In 1981, the annual Hahira Honey Bee Festival was born. A week-long celebration held in early October, it features arts and crafts, live entertainment, a beauty pageant, a parade, and demonstrations of the secret life of bees. Over 20,000 visitors attend the Honey Bee Festival, and the City is home to other seasonal events throughout the year, including Third Thursdays, Motorin’ On Main Car Show, a St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Art Around Town, and an annual Christmas Festival. Hahira’s city beautification program has resulted in recognition as a "Tree City USA", and each year its citizens join together in The Great American Clean-up in partnership with Keep Lowndes-Valdosta Beautiful. For it’s revitalization efforts, Hahira has also earned “Better Hometown Community” designation, and currently has a Downtown Development Department committed to maintaining positive relationships with local businesses. With a population of approximately 2,500, Hahirans enjoy a charming, small town atmosphere and the luxury of being just minutes away from a larger city. Residents here live within walking distance of all their daily needs, from shopping, banking, recreation, and worship, to the many services offered within the city limits.
