| American Red Cross The American Red Cross is a volunteer humanitarian organization that provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. | South Georgia Medical Center Volunteers Many different volunteer opportunities are available at SGMC: Auxiliary – Volunteers, who serve in assigned areas throughout the hospital, enhance service to the hospital’s customers and help to raise funds through various projects. • Mended Hearts – Volunteers, who are interested in heart disease or have heart disease, visit the hospital’s heart patients. • Pet Therapy – Volunteers visit the hospital patients with their supervised, trained, and screened dogs to promote laughter, play, and touch. • Art & Soul – Volunteers assist patients in the Cancer Center with art projects, which help to reduce symptons of pain and anxiety during and after their cancer treatments. • Youth – Mature and responsible students interested in a health career between the ages 14-17 may volunteer eight weeks during the summer in selected areas in the hospital. • Greenleaf – Volunteers assist the staff at the reception desk in the Greenleaf Center Call Volunteer Services at 229-259-4410 for details. |
