For
decades, The Greeting Service has welcomed Valdosta newcomers with traditional
southern hospitality–a
personal home visit and a folder brimming with information about
schools, churches, cultural opportunities, and a bag chock full of coupons and goodies.
The Greeting Service has expanded its borders to include Adel, Hahira,
Lakeland Lake Park, Moody Air Force Base, Nashville, Quitman, and Tifton
and now publishes an annual community resource guide acquainting newcomers
with relocation information including job opportunities and housing.
The hub of a newly designated metropolitan statistical area, Valdosta’s
leading employers are South Georgia Medical Center and Valdosta State
University, both located in the heart of town while Smith Northview
Hospital and Valdosta Technical College are located in the northern portion
of Lowndes County.
The schools in the City of Valdosta and Lowndes County are comprised
of two systems, Valdosta City Schools and Lowndes County Schools, serving
approximately 17,000 area students.
Newcomers will enjoy the bounty of shopping choices at Colonial Mall
Valdosta, Lake Park Factory Stores (outlet mall) and the many quaint
downtown shops in the region. Entertainment varies from educational, at The
Georgia Agrirama in Tifton, a living history museum, to the fun and exciting
Wild Adventures theme park. For a scenic excursion, Banks Lake Wildlife National
Wildlife Refuge offers fishing, boating and hiking.
We look forward to sharing all the fun and exciting things that Valdosta
and the surrounding communities have to offer and hope you enjoy discovering
a new place to call home. |
